Misconceptions

The misconception about dieting is that you think when you've been really really really good for a few days in a row, tracking, exercising, staying within points and drinking water - that the scales will reward you with a loss.

But they don't always do they?

My scales have gone up, and up and they continue to go up every morning (and yes I know I shouldn't be getting on the scales every day but I do, I always have and this will never change so don't anybody try and lecture me on it.) LOL.

I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong, cos I don't think i'm doing anything wrong, but obviously the universe is testing my fortitude this week, but i'm not going to give in. I have my goal within sight now and i'm determined to make this one. I've been talking about getting under 75 kilos for so long now it's become a stone around my neck.

I guess i'll be laughing about this when i'm in the low 70's and heading towards being a 60's girl, but right now its annoying the crap out of me!!

Get off the scales... lol... I must admit I do it too - weigh myself every morning (and sometimes before and after going to the toilet... and after dinner ... and before bed...)

If you're doing the right things, it will show on the scales. My old gym instructor always reckoned it takes 2 weeks for the scales to catch up to what you do with your body so don't sweat it. As a wise woman once said, "it won't happen overnight, but it will happen".

I don't think its so bad to weigh yourself everyday. When you have weighed yourself everyday for 3 months, you get to know the patterns, and you can you can remember what happens at TTOTM etc. One thing I have learned on Lite n Hard is how much I pick at stuff, and how unbalanced my nutrients can be for the day. The other good thing about L&H is that I can keep myself from starvation mode by spacing out the meals and snacks and coffee, knowing I am getting everything my body needs. I think that even if you are 'good', your body can get unbalanced and retain water/fat/whatever because of it. Just keep up the good work, stay away from salt for now and you'll trend in the right direction. If you do what you did last night and burn over 350 cals every day as well, and keep cals to 1200 you will lose weight.

I am a every morning weigher - and it does help you see how your body reacts - I find if I eat salty foods, the scales are way up the next morning!

And here I thought I was the only one who weighed myself constantly! I'm slowly getting out of the habit, but there's really nothing wrong with it. Like everyone else has said, at least you'll get to know your weight patterns. Just keep doing what you're doing...and they have to start going down, right? I try not eating after 7pm and it's working for me.

Best of luck!

You can do this Bri, yes you can do it. Just stick to tracking, exercising, staying within your points and drinking water. It will move.

Just keep doing the best you can babe and don't let the scales rule. Remember all sorts of factors are at hand and salt in food is a big one I've noticed, especially in processed food. Retaining fluid this way can be deceiving.

Now we're all confessing aren't we and I'm also one of the daily weighers. I can generally predict my weight each day now but that's after lot's of practice!!! Remember Briony that you have just got seriously back into this again just a couple of weeks ago. I got me journal out from when I started last April and it was very interesting, although I can clearly recall feeling just as fed up as you are now. First week - lost 2.3, 2nd week - lost .5, 3rd week - gained .5. so after 3 weeks of being really good I had only lost the same 2.8 I had lost in the first week!! You know, I kept going and eventually it has come off. It will happen Bri, just keep doing the right thing and you will get there!!!

I agree the scales do not follow any logic. As Kathryn siad it just may take a couple of weeks. That doesn't help to stay motivated I know but hang in there and keep on doing the right thing and you will be rewarded. And remember you are getting smaller even if the scales don't show it.
